This post was authored by Uwe Peter, Vice President & General Manager for Cisco Germany. For The Climate And Your Costs. As I talk with all of my customers in the manufacturing space, one thread stays consistent: Manufacturing was one of the hardest hit industries due to COVID-19. The mass shuttering of factories, global supply chain challenges, and reduced headcount aligned to the Great Resignation has forced manufacturers to think about their evolution to stay competitive.
Why do so few leadership improvement efforts produce the results that leaders and business sponsors want? What is in the way? Through decades of experience helping manufacturers improve their companies and leadership, Keith Gammill and his colleagues at Arkansas Manufacturing Solutions, the Arkansas MEP Center and part of the MEP National Network™, identified five common obstacles to leadership improvement.
The automotive industry was severely hit by the pandemic, with a 13.6% dip in global car sales in 2020, a more significant slide than during the financial crisis of 2008. However, one segment that bucked the trend was electric vehicles (EVs). In 2020, new electric car sales grew by 40% from 2019 levels, and by 2021, global EV sales reached around 6.5 million.
When production operators work the pack-out stations, I consider that to be one of the most crucial check points for your parts. If you think about it, those operators are the last ones to touch your product before it reaches the customer. Those operators are acting as the “final goalie” and need to catch any issues (especially apparent issues) before your part(s) leave the building.

Looking Ahead. No matter where you reside or what industry your company serves, the past few years have driven intense scrutiny of two major questions: how have we “always operated” and “what needs to change going forward”? As I talk with my customers in the manufacturing space, it is clear that manufacturing is just beginning to recover from the grasp of COVID-19.
Cobot palletizers are making industrial packaging and palletizing operations simpler, faster, and more efficient. As well as doing the heavy lifting, they can also perform a range of tasks that require accuracy, speed, and relatively complex movements too. We find that while a lot of companies know that automation can help them be more competitive, there is still a lack of awareness about the many ways a cobot can add value to their operations.
